Dear Parents and Carers, Sunday 13th September would have been Roald Dahl’s 104th birthday! This special date has been dedicated to his memory and we in St. Mary’s on the Hill will be marking the occasion on Friday 11th September. This year we’re celebrating the best characters, moments and quotes from Roald Dahl stories. We will be studying Dahl’s splendiferous language and topsy turvy tricks! You might like to spend some time this week reading your favourite Roald Dahl story with your child, or even watching a screen adaptation. Whichever way you wish to mark the occasion, you’re sure to have a tremendous time! For further information, please visit www.roalddahl.com Yours Faithfully, B. Niblock Literacy co-ordinator
We look forward to seeing you all when you return to school next week. Remember to stay safe, stay apart and keep your hands clean!
St. Mary's on the Hill Primary School support all Front Line Workers! We very much appreciate everything you are all doing. Stay safe and God bless!
Earlier this afternoon the First Minister and Deputy First Minister made an announcement relating to the threat of COVID-19. Part of this concerned schools and wider educational settings. This is to confirm that schools, pre-schools, and statutory nurseries will close at the end of the day on Friday 20th March for all pupils and children. We intend to send out more detailed information tomorrow. This remains a rapidly changing and challenging situation and I appreciate the dedication of all staff working in the sector at this incredibly difficult time. PETER WEIR MLA MINISTER OF EDUCATION
Dear Parents/Carers, School closed Wednesday 18th, Thursday 19th March 2020 to all pupils. The Board of Governors have taken the decision to move two staff Development Days from later in the year to Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th March. Therefore, the school will be closed to pupils on these days and will reopen to all on Friday 19thMarch. The Board of Governors have not taken this decision lightly, but as a necessary step in light of this rapidly changing situation. This will allow staff to develop our contingency plans and prepare home learning advice and resources in the event of a long term closure. It is clear that the continued education of our children, albeit in a different format, will continue. We want to thank you for your continued support in these difficult times and acknowledge the concerns you have about the health of your families and the wider community. Kind regards, Ciarán Conway | Principal
A huge congratulations to all the boys and girls who performed on behalf of St Mary’s on the Hill at the Peace Proms last night in the SSE Arena. The children were simply outstanding. I cannot communicate highly enough what a great experience this is for the children. A huge thank you goes to Mr McEvoy for preparing the children and to Mrs Dempsey and Mrs Niblock for accompanying them. It was a wonderful opportunity and one that will live long in the minds and memories of the children and parents who attended.
